The only molecule smaller than Helium (mass 4) is Hydrogen (mass 2) and Hydrogen is not inert. Neon (mass 20) is the next heavier molecule than Helium and Neon is expensive.
Our instruments can detect large and extremely small helium leaks.
A leak rate of 5 x 10-8 cc/sec.means that .00000005 cubic centimeters will leak every second at a constant pressure across the leak. A leak this size would take approximately 3 yrs to fill a 1 cubic centimeter container (1cc).
